IPL2024: After Dhoni leaves the captaincy of CSK, Ruturaj Gaikwad will captain against RCB.

The captain of the Chennai Super Kings has been replaced before of the opening IPL 2024 match. After MS Dhoni retires, Ruturaj Gaikwad will lead CSK as captain.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad has been named as the new captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the team’s opener in the Indian Premier League (IPL) against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk.
Gaikwad is over taking MS Dhoni, who is yet to retire from IPL, and is still available for playing.
Gaikwad won Asian Games 2023 Gold medal for India as a captain in Hangzhou.

Gaikwad is ahead of MS Dhoni, who is currently playing in IPL and has not retired yet. The official handle of IPL announced this on social media on Thursday, March 21.

When Ravindra Jadeja took charge of the Yellow Brigade, MS Dhoni stepped in as CSK captain for the last time in 2022. But by the halfway point of the season, MSD had taken charge, leading the club to victory in the remaining league games and the IPL 2023 championship.

The majority of the Indian Premier League games that the 42-year-old Dhoni captained were played. His winning record in 226 games was 58.84 percent, and he captained both CSK and the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants.

What part will MS Dhoni play for CSK?

Prior to arriving at the CSK training camp in Chepauk, Dhoni made an announcement about his upcoming duty. Few would have predicted that, in the new position, he would completely reject the captaincy. He might be an impact player for CSK or possibly Ruturaj’s mentor, helping him adjust to his new position.

Has Ruturaj ever been a captain?

The Indian team that competed in the 2023 Asian Games in China and took home the gold medal was captained by Gaikwad. In a five-match series against Australia and a three-match series against South Africa, Suryakumar Yadav captained the Indian T20 team, which Gaikwad was named vice-captain of.

With modest to moderate success, the 27-year-old has already led his state team, Maharashtra, in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (Domestic T20) and Vijay Hazare Trophy.
